DAY 2 • LJUBLJANA WALKING TOUR – POSTOJNA CAVE – PREDJAMA CASTLE

Breakfast at hotel. Your local guide will collect you at your hotel and take you for a walking tour of Ljubljana. Lying between the Alps and the Adriatic, with a vibrant culture and art scene, Ljubljana is an ideal destination for lovers of Central European flair and one of most engaging cities. It has preserved evidence of history including the remains of the Roman city of Emona, Baroque façades and its decorative portals, the distinctive Art Nouveau buildings and the 20th century masterpieces of the world famous architect Jože Plečnik that put an indelible personal stamp on his native Ljubljana. Since Ljubljana city center is mostly pedestrian, it will be a pleasant guided walk through the city’s most important sights, including a visit to Ljubljana castle, located on the hill above the city and offering fantastic views of the city. After this walking tour you will visit Postojna caves. It is actually a 20-km long Karst cave system, a web of underground passages, galleries and chambers, which has in almost 200 years been visited now by over 35 million people. An electric mini train will take you deep inside the caves and a guide will lead you through fascinating chambers rich with various forms of stalactites and stalagmites. Just 9 km further, you will visit Predjama castle, part of which is built into the middle of a 123 metre high vertical cliff face and was originally home of the legendary outcast knight Erasmus. The present castle, which was given its Renaissance appearance in the 16th century, houses a museum. Enjoy a free evening and dinner on your own in Ljubljana. Overnight in Ljubljana.
